Where was Gerar located?
Gerar was located down on the border between Israel, or Palestine, Canaan, and Egypt. In Genesis 26, Isaac went there to Abimelech, king of the Philistines, during a famine, and the Lord told him not to go down into Egypt but to dwell in the land of promise.
Les explains that Gerar was situated down on the border between Israel, or Palestine, Canaan, and Egypt. In Genesis chapter 26, after God made the covenant with Abraham and passed it to Isaac, the true son of promise, a famine occurred besides the first famine in Abraham's days. Isaac went to Abimelech, king of the Philistines, unto Gerar. The Lord appeared to Isaac and said, "Go not down into Egypt. Dwell in the land which I shall tell thee of." God reaffirmed the Abrahamic Covenant, promising to be with Isaac, bless him, give his seed all those countries, multiply his seed as the stars of heaven, and bless all nations in his seed because Abraham obeyed God's voice. Thus Gerar is located on that border region adjacent to Canaan and Egypt.
And there was a famine in the land, beside the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went unto Abimelech king of the Philistines unto Gerar.
