Why did Peter preach the crucifixion?

Peter preached the crucifixion to prove that God had overcome what they had accomplished by killing Jesus, and that He could still fulfill His covenant promises. Peter was not preaching crucifixion as a means of salvation, but showing God raised Him so He could still be their King.

Les explains that Peter was not preaching the crucifixion as a means of salvation. Peter was saying, in effect, “You killed Him, but God is risen from the dead. He can still be your King.” Peter preached the crucifixion to prove that God had overcome what they had accomplished, and that He could still fulfill His covenant promises. By contrast, Paul later looks at the whole scene from a different perspective: He did it for us, that we might have life eternal. Paul says, “We preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness; but unto them who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.”
