What mistake do even the best theologians make about the Jerusalem Jewish believers?
Even the best theologians ignore the biblical statement that Gentile believers at Antioch were first called Christians, then wrongly label the Jerusalem Jewish believers as Christians. Scripture never calls those Jewish believers Christians, since they remained under covenant promises and were not saved according to the Gospel of grace.
Les explains that the Word of God never refers to the Jewish believers primarily centered around Jerusalem as Christians. Acts 11 says the Gentile believers at Antioch were first called Christians. Yet even the best theologians constantly ignore that statement and go back and call these Jewish believers Christians. Les refuses to do so. He identifies them as Jewish believers under the covenant promises, the same as John the Baptist's followers, those who came under Christ's ministry, and those saved on Pentecost. He argues that a person cannot be called a Christian who has not been saved according to the Gospel of the grace of God—that Christ died for our sins, rose from the dead, and ascended.
