Where did Peter and John go in Acts 3:1, and why?

In Acts 3:1, Peter and John went up together to the temple. The temple had not been closed down, and they were still practicing the Law. This was still an extension of the Old Testament program, as God was still dealing with the nation of Israel under the same circumstances begun with John the Baptist.

Les teaches that Acts chapter 3 continues directly from chapter 2 with nothing changed; it is still an extension of the Old Testament program. The Messiah Israel should have and could have accepted as King in His earthly ministry had been crucified, God raised Him from the dead, and He called Him back to glory to sit at the Father's right hand. Yet He is still dealing with the nation of Israel under the same circumstances that began with John the Baptist. So Peter and John went to the temple because it had not been closed down, and they were still practicing the Law. Les points out that they did not go to a church on the corner of First and Grand; they went to the temple. This was still all very Jewish, and they had not yet heard the Gospel of Grace as we know it or comprehended that Messiah's death, burial, and resurrection was intended to go out to the Gentile world.

Acts 3:1

Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
