Why did God start dealing with the Gentiles instead of Israel?
Israel rejected God's program and the testimony that He was with the Jewish nation in Jerusalem, so it temporarily fell through the cracks. In the meantime, God began dealing with Gentiles, while Israel will still have her future day. Gentiles also must be turned from their iniquities.
