Who is the stone cut without hands in Daniel 2?
The stone cut without hands represents Christ, specifically in His second coming. Daniel 2 shows it striking the Gentile empires, destroying their residue, and filling the whole earth. Scripture consistently identifies Christ as the stone and the rock, so the stone cut from the mountain without hands is Christ at His return.
Les teaches that Daniel 2 records Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of the great image: the head of gold, chest of silver, belly of brass, legs of iron, and feet of iron and clay mixed. These depicted the great Gentile empires coming down through history. In verse 35, the stone not cut with hands comes and destroys all the residue of those previous Gentile kingdoms, and it fills the whole earth. Then in verses 44 and 45, the stone is cut out of the mountain without hands. Les explains that Christ is always the stone and the rock of Scripture, so this stone is Christ in His second coming.
And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.
Forasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure.
