Who is the Prince of Peace?
The Prince of Peace is Christ, the promised King of kings and Lord of lords whose government rests upon His shoulder and whose peace has no end upon the throne of David. The context also identifies Him as God the Father, tying Isaiah’s prophecy together.
Les explains that Isaiah’s prophecy points to the coming Kingdom on earth, the King of kings and Lord of lords who will rule not only Israel but the whole world. His government will be perfect, with no sin, corruption, or rotten politics, and it rests upon the shoulder of the person Isaiah is talking about. Les says everybody knows the Prince of Peace was Christ, but many do not know that He is also God the Father, and this verse ties it all together. He also notes that the increase of His government and peace will have no end upon the throne of David, and that Matthew’s Gospel goes back only to Abraham because it presents Christ as the King, a concept coming from the Abrahamic Covenant.
