What did Jesus cry from the cross at the ninth hour, and what does 'Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?' mean?

At the ninth hour, about 3 p.m., Jesus cried with a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" meaning, "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken Me?" This was God speaking to God, for the Christ of the cross is the Creator God.

Les explains that after three hours of total silence, at the ninth hour—three o'clock in the afternoon—Jesus cried with a loud voice, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" which means, "My God, My God, why hast thou forsaken Me?" Les notes this statement has caused consternation among believers for hundreds of years. Martin Luther wrestled with it and finally exclaimed that he had found it: when Jesus said those words, it was God speaking to God. Les stresses that the Christ of the cross is the same God who created everything in Genesis 1, and the New Testament constantly credits Him as Creator. Too many believers, Les says, are unaware of who Jesus really is—He is the Creator God. He also mentions a Muslim listener who argued Jesus was never God but merely a prophet superseded by Muhammad.
