What name did God tell Moses to give to the children of Israel at the burning bush?

At the burning bush, God told Moses to tell the children of Israel that “I AM” had sent him. He was to say, “I AM, the great I AM, hath sent you.” This name identifies God as Jehovah, the I AM of Scripture.

Les explains that the term Jehovah in the Old Testament, translated out of its contractions, stood for the I AM; Jehovah is the I AM, all of Scripture. He points back to Exodus chapter 3 at the burning bush, where Moses asked what he should tell the children of Israel God’s name was. God’s answer was that Moses should tell them “I AM, the great I AM hath sent you.” Les then ties this to John’s Gospel, where Jesus referred to Himself as the I AM, connecting Him to the person of Jehovah all the way back to the Old Testament.
