What was the Shekinah glory?

The Shekinah glory was the very presence of God, appearing in the cloud upon the mercy seat above the ark behind the veil. Only the high priest could enter there, and only once a year on the Day of Atonement.

Les teaches that the Shekinah glory was upon the mercy seat, and that it was the very presence of God. The high priest could not come behind the veil at all times; he could enter that place only once a year, on the Day of Atonement. Before Christ, the Old Testament believer went down into paradise but could not go into God's presence, because his sins were not atoned for, only covered. Les explains that the priest had to go through the whole ritual of cleansing, and that Christ fulfilled these pictures when He went to the cross on our behalf.

Leviticus 16:2

And the LORD said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the vail before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark; that he die not: for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat.
