Why will the Tribulation days end on schedule rather than being prolonged?
The great tribulation will end right on schedule for the elect’s sake, so that not all flesh is destroyed. If those days were prolonged even ten or twelve days beyond the appointed 1,260, no one would survive the tremendous loss of life from natural calamity, earthquakes, volcanoes, and cosmic disturbances.
Les explains that Jesus described the great tribulation as uniquely horrendous, worse than anything Israel had previously endured. The word “shortened” in Matthew 24:22 does not mean the days will be moved up a month or two, nor does it mean they might be extended. Rather, it means the days will end right on schedule—three and a half years and three and a half years, 1,260 days and another 1,260 days. If they continued even ten or twelve more days, no flesh would survive, but survivors will remain. For the elect’s sake—for believers—those days will not be prolonged, because the loss of life from natural calamity, earthquakes, volcanoes, cosmic disturbances, and possibly great meteor activity would otherwise be too great.
