Where is the joy of our salvation found?
The joy of our salvation is found in our position in Christ, specifically in Colossians 3:3. It rests on being risen with Christ, identifying with His death, burial, and resurrection, and setting affection on things above rather than on earthly things.
Les explains that the joy of our salvation is found in our spiritual position in Christ, not in earthly things. He points to Colossians 3, starting at verse 1, where we are told that if we are risen with Christ, we should seek those things which are above, where Christ sits at the right hand of God. Verse 2 says to set our affection on things above, not on things on the earth. Les calls this practical Christianity, meaning our priorities are set heavenward. He notes this does not mean we must be so heavenly minded we are no earthly good, nor that we must live Spartan lives. The joy comes from identifying with Christ's death, burial, and resurrection.
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
