Why doesn't being saved and kept by grace give us license?
Grace does not give license because believers who have eternal life are no longer to live for themselves. Paul writes that they should live for the One who died and rose for them. That leaves no room for permissive or loose living; being kept by grace obligates them to live for Him.
Les explains that grace is not license. Just because we are saved by grace and kept by grace, that does not give us permissiveness or license. Paul repeatedly puts this before us: the believer's life is based on Christ's death, shed blood, burial, resurrection, and power—not on keeping the Law or practicing commandments. If we have entered into eternal life, we should not live unto ourselves but unto the One who died for us and rose again. That leaves no room for permissive or loose living. Les insists no one can accuse him of teaching a loose Christian walk just because we are under grace; we are to live for Him because He died for us.
And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
