Les Feldick Bible Study

Why are the Gospel accounts directed mainly to Israel and not to the Church?

The Gospel accounts are predominantly directed to the nation of Israel because the Church, the Body of Christ, was kept secret in the mind of God and included among the mysteries. For it to remain a secret, no part could slip out, so Jesus gave no hint of turning to Gentiles to call out a Gentile body.

Les teaches that everything in the Gospel accounts—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and even John—is still predominantly, though not exclusively, directed to the nation of Israel. He explains that the Church as we know it, the Body of Christ, is kept secret in the mind of God, and that this secret is part of the mysteries. Because a secret cannot have any part slip out or it is no longer a secret, Les challenges listeners to search the Gospels and see if Jesus ever hints at turning to the Gentiles and calling out a Gentile body for Himself; he says you won't find it. He notes that the closest statement people may raise is Jesus' words, 'I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it,' and he begins to deal with that statement.
