How should you interpret God's dealings with Israel in Scripture?

Scripture shows God deals with Israel on two levels: national and personal. Interpreters must discern whether a passage addresses the nation under the covenants or an individual. Most often it is the national level, since the covenants pertain to the nation, though individual Jews can still be saved.

Les teaches that throughout Scripture God deals with Israel on two levels, national and personal. So you have to always look at it and ask whether He is dealing with the nation as a nation under the covenants, or dealing with an individual. Most of the time He is dealing with them on the national level, because that is where the covenants come in. Even though the nation is spiritually blind, an individual Jew can still be saved and enjoy salvation. Les connects this to the parable of the lost coin, describing it as the condition of the nation of Israel, that which was God's by covenant promises, while the lost one is the one He brought to Himself, just like the little lost sheep.
