What happened to Jonah in type and picture when the great fish swallowed him?

In type and picture, the great fish swallowing Jonah represents death; for all practical purposes Jonah died. The event is true because Jesus Himself referred to Jonah's account. It followed the sailors throwing him overboard because they knew he caused their trouble.

Les explains that Jonah was told to go to Nineveh, a Gentile city, but he did not want to go. He had the same mindset as Peter in Acts 10 when the Lord told him to go to Cornelius. Instead of going east, Jonah took a ship west on the Mediterranean. The sailors threw him overboard because they knew he was the cause of their trouble, and a great fish took him, much like an Oklahoma bass takes a minnow. Jesus Himself referred to Jonah's account, confirming it is true. In type and picture, when the great fish swallowed him, Jonah died for all practical purposes.
