What did the Law demand about forgiving others?

The Law demanded that a person forgive others in order to be forgiven by God. It made forgiveness conditional: if you do not forgive those who wrong you, God will not forgive you. This is the legal requirement contrasted with Grace, where the Law has no power over believers.

Les explains that the Law demanded forgiving others as a condition for being forgiven by God. He points back to the Lord's Prayer to illustrate the difference between Law and Grace. He tells of a released hostage who believed he had to forgive his torturers or God would never forgive him. Les says this sounds good but is sad, because that is what the Law demanded. Under Grace, however, the Law has no power over us, though that does not give license to sin. The book of Galatians is written to prove believers are not under Law but under Grace.
