Why is faith necessary for the Christian walk?

Faith is necessary for the Christian walk because walking with God requires taking Him at His Word. If a believer cannot believe what God says, there is no reliable way to know how to walk. Faith therefore underlies both salvation and daily obedience, since the Word of God is the guide for life.

Les teaches that when a person pays attention to or takes heed of the Word of God, the one word that covers that is faith—taking God at His Word. He explains that faith is not only a necessity for salvation; it is also a necessity for the Christian walk. The reason is practical: how are you going to know how to walk if you cannot believe what God says? So it all comes down to taking God at His Word. Les says this is the point Jesus is making in the temptation account.
