What is the purpose of the tree of life's leaves in eternity?
The leaves of the tree of life serve a therapeutic purpose in eternity. Eating them will be therapeutic for the citizens of this eternal abode, enhancing their eternalness—something God wants and we would want. Adam was not permitted to partake so he would not live forever, but in eternity we will eat of it.
Les teaches that the leaves of the tree of life in eternity are for therapy, not mere ornamentation. He compares it to an apple a day keeping the doctor away: eating the leaves will be a therapeutic thing for the citizens of this eternal abode and will enhance their eternalness. That is why Adam was not permitted to partake—had he eaten, he would have lived forever. In eternity, however, we will eat of it because it enhances our eternalness, which God wants and we would want.
