What does 1 Corinthians 1:18 say about the preaching of the cross to the lost and to the saved?

First Corinthians 1:18 says the preaching of the cross is foolishness to them that perish—the lost, who say it has nothing to do with them. But unto us who are saved, the preaching of the cross is the power of God.

Les explains that 1 Corinthians 1:18 contrasts the lost and the saved. To those who perish, the preaching of the cross is foolishness; the lost person says it has nothing to do with him. But to those who are saved, that same preaching is the power of God. Earlier, Paul says Christ sent him not to baptize but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ be made of no effect. Nothing the Church does, not even baptism, dare detract from the finished work of the cross. Les also illustrates the Spirit convicting a dead spirit, showing sinners they broke the Law, but God provided someone to die in their place.
