Do church membership, baptism, communion, tithing, and good works have anything to do with salvation?

Paul explains in Romans 1:16 that the gospel is the power of God unto salvation. It does not say join the Church, get baptized, take communion, tithe, or do good works. Those things have their rightful place, but they have nothing to do with salvation.

Les teaches from Romans 1:16 that Paul calls the gospel of Christ the power of God unto salvation. He illustrates this with a car battery: when jump cables from a charged battery or a generator connect, outside power flows in and the dead battery has life. Likewise, the gospel is the generating power. Paul's statement does not include joining the Church, being baptized, taking communion, tithing, or doing good works. Les says those things are all right in their rightful place, but they have nothing to do with salvation. Believing, in this context, means totally entrusting our eternal destiny to the Word of God and the power of the gospel.

Romans 1:16

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

More Questions

Are baptism, church membership, tithing, and good works required for salvation?

A lot of things that people automatically think are requirements for salvation are not requirements for salvation; Romans 1:16 does not actually say that.
