What happens to believers at the bema seat of Christ?
Believers stand before the bema seat of Christ to receive rewards, not to give an account for sin—those are paid for. They give an account for what they have done as believers. Their salvation was complete the moment they believed and was a once-for-all transaction.
Les teaches that salvation was complete the moment a person believed, placing them in the Body of Christ and under the blood of Christ, a once-for-all transaction. At the bema seat of Christ, however, believers appear to receive rewards. They do not give an account for sin, because sin is paid for, but they give an account for what they have done as believers. Les then moves to 1 Corinthians 3, where Paul lays it out in clearer language: believers are to labor in preparation for the day they stand before the bema seat of Christ. We are laborers in our day-to-day existence and laborers with God. As God's husbandry, God constantly cultivates believers like a farmer cultivating a crop, caring for it and fighting bugs until it is finally consummated and in the bin.
