What makes a parent happy in the earthly analogy?

In the earthly analogy, a parent is happy when all their offspring are obedient and generally conform to the parents' wishes. That obedience and conformity create a happy circumstance, whereas a renegade or antagonistic child brings heartache to the parent.

Les explains the earthly, physical analogy: parents with two, three, or four offspring are in a happy circumstance as long as the children are obedient and more or less conform to the parents' wishes. But if one or two become renegades—belligerent and antagonistic—it leaves the parent with heartache. He compares this to God, who has paid the purchase price of redemption and wishes we would do His bidding but will not force it. The incentive for believers to please Him is reward, just as parents give children incentives and reward their response.
