What is Amillennialism according to Les?
Amillennialism is the view that all promises given to Israel have now been given to the Church, leaving no prophecy to fulfill. It holds that the Church is the literal Kingdom, so the Tribulation and Second Coming are unnecessary, and Satan was defeated and locked up at the Crucifixion and Resurrection.
Les explains that when the Jew is taken off the scene, prophecy is blown out of the water. Augustine, a Roman Catholic bishop after Constantine opened the Roman Empire to Christianity, followed the concept that Christianity was usurping the planet and that the Kingdom would be brought in that way. Since the Church was considered the literal Kingdom, there was no more need for the Tribulation or the Second Coming. Augustine even felt Satan was defeated and locked up at the Crucifixion and Resurrection, so they were already in the Kingdom. This precipitated Amillennialism: all promises given to Israel had now been given to the Church, and no prophecy was left to fulfill. Later Reformers like Luther and Calvin were so focused on salvation and faith and removing Roman Catholic excesses that they never considered eschatology or end-time events.
