Who is the branch from the stem of Jesse in Isaiah 11:1?

Isaiah 11:1 describes a rod coming from Jesse’s stem and a branch growing from his roots. Since Jesse was David’s father and Christ is consistently regarded as the Son of David, the branch represents the Messiah, the Christ, the promised anointed King.

Les teaches from Isaiah 11:1 that the rod out of Jesse’s stem and the branch out of his roots point to Messiah, the Christ. Jesse was the father of David, and because Christ is always considered the Son of David, the branch is the promised anointed one. Isaiah 11:2–3 then describes the Spirit of the Lord resting on Him with wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge, and the fear of the Lord, so He judges with righteousness. Les connects this righteous rule to the Kingdom and notes the rod of His mouth slays the wicked at Armageddon.
