What does faith recognize about Christ?
Faith recognizes that Christ died and rose from the dead, and that this is all that is needed. It takes God at His Word: God said it, we believe it, and God recognizes it. By believing, one listens to the Word of God, not by works of the Law.
Les explains that faith is not a work; hearing brings faith, and we contemplate and recognize that Christ died and rose from the dead, and that is all we need. We believe it, and by believing we are listening to the Word of God. He defines faith as taking God at His Word: God said it, we believe it, and God recognizes it; then He moves in and does everything that needs to be done. This is by faith, not the works of the Law. Les notes repetition helps these things soak in, and he contrasts having begun in the Spirit with being made perfect by the flesh, meaning the weak and beggarly Law. The Spirit is received by the hearing of faith, not by the works of the Law.
